Lucy Rahn

Founder & Director

Lucy Rahn created the camp after returning to Minneapolis after college, over 10 years ago. She is a Mpls native who enjoys sharing her passion for the arts and the outdoors with kids.

As a pre-teen and teen Lucy performed at the Children's Theatre Co. She has a BA in French and Environmental Studies from UW-Madison and an MFA in Dance Performance from Mills College in Oakland, CA.

Lucy has performed the work of Robert Battle, Sean Curran, Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer.  Her choreography was shown at the Ritz Theatre, Zenon Dance's Studio, Bryant Lake Bowl, at Mills College and at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. On stage, she performed at the Guthrie Theater in ROMAN HOLIDAY, danced in the Minnesota Opera's NABUCCO; and played Caitlin in "SWING! The Musical". She has been working on flm and TV sets since 2016.

Lucy's teaching credits include at The School at Steps on Broadway, Zenon, Shawl-Anderson Dance, Fancy Feet, multiple studios and schools, and choreography credits at Saint Paul Academy Middle School, Sandbox Theater and South High. Lucy is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and the Screen Actor's Guild. She also loves piano & drawing.

My name is Dahlia I will be in 12th grade and attending School of Environmental science (SES) aka the MN Zoo School in the fall. I love my school sports, cross country and lacrosse. During my free time you can find me outside, being crafty and reading. I remember my summers at Lucy’s Dance Camp as a kid, our end of the week plays and prancing on the beach were particularly my favorite. I am so excited to come back as a counselor to give kids an experience I remember so fondly.

Maria Benito '21.jpeg
Maria Benito

Senior Counselor

Maria joined the camp in 2011 as a camper and junior helper and has increased her responsibilities and contributions since then. She graduated from SW HS and started at Macalester College in fall '21, where she is taking classes in environmental studies and world affairs. Maria is fluent in English and Spanish.

Deni '21.jpeg
Deni Coyne

Lead Instructor

Deni taught full-time for 20 years in Minneapolis Elementary Schools, mostly in grades 1-3, and is still at it (part-time)! She is currently a classroom support person working in the Hopkins School District.

Last year Deni was reminded of how much fun it is to help children perform and learn to work together when she came to pick up her granddaughter, Miri, and watched Lucy doing dance and movement.

Deni has taught after school programs doing creative dramatics where children would make up plays and present them to friends and families. She also has training in 'Brain Gym', which is a movement based learning program. The activities are short and simple and researched-based, designed to help children have fun, focus, and relieve stress. Perhaps Deni's most important qualification is that she is Miri’s grandmother. Miri has been doing “Dance Camp” with Lucy since last summer. She can’t get enough.

Jade Goswami-Espinosa '21.jpeg

Jade first attended the camp as a 9-year old in our Create Your Own Musical camp. She returned in 2020 alongside her younger sister, this time, as an assistant counselor. Jade is known for her excellent art skills (even with colored chalk) and her encouragement and patience with the campers. In fall 2021, she started at MCTC with courses towards an Art Therapy degree.

April Clark photo_edited.jpg

April Clark

Lead Instructor

April is a farm girl and a graphic designer with a heart for others. She shines through acts of service, working with others as a team player, and knows how to keep calm with clarity amid chaos. April utilized these skills when she led a community group after college, for a season. She wanted to provide a safe place for all to find support.

As a graphic designer, she creates elements that speak through images—giving words to a complex thought or vision to a simple but powerful statement. April chooses to use her design skills for the good of others by helping wherever she can.

She has recently worked in child-care and as a nanny with a child on the spectrum, and currently works part-time for 'Feed The Starving Children' non-profit organization.
